This was written as a challenge for somewhere else a while ago, contains all characters from Gryffindor and a few others.
Hermione sat in the great hall with Fred and George, beginning to wonder if anyone was going to remember her birthday; since it was today. Ron had become seemingly more and more annoyed with her over the past week.
She had noticed an odd secrecy that involved some of the Gryffindor students; such as Parvati and Lavender, when Hermione entered the Common room, they had stopped talking and whispered as she neared the portal.
Then on another occasion, Katie and Alicia were laughing away between themselves. When Hermione had entered Potions class the girls snatched up whatever it was they had been sblack personing over, hiding it behind their backs.
She had gotten fed up with Ron`s persistance of bickering with her over the smallest of things. Even though Fred and George had inventions that she disagreed upon they had spent the last hour consoling her because of Ron`s actions.
“You shouldn`t worry about it, Hermione,” George started.
“It will be alright,” Fred finished, giving a quick smirk to his twin.
Hermione looked at either twin curiously for a moment, wondering what the smirk had meant.
“He drives me insane, I bet you that brownie he`ll come in here acting as if nothing`s happened,” Hermione said, spotting the last dessert on the platter.
“The bet is on, but the brownie`s mine,” Fred smirked, taking a bite from it.
“What are you writing?” George looked at the piece of parchment Hemione had been writing on.
“Last day subject for McGonagall, she wanted us to write a limmerick, for what I don`t know,” Hermione answered.
“Let`s hear it then,” Fred demanded, looking up from his own work.
“A man with two chins, Built bicycles for twins, He had on hand, A suitable brand. Called them Siamese Schwinns,” Hermione giggled, looking up from the paper to the twins chuckling in response.
Ginny and Neville joined them, sitting opposite Hermione and the twins. Spotting Angelina entering, Fred nudged George.
“Watch this, remember, George it`s not so much the swish and flick movement. Ready?” Fred advised, seeing his twin nod he aimed his wand, “Caninum.”
Angelina froze, droppping her books. Her body shook as spell forced her down on all fours. From underneath her clothes the wiry fur sprouted from her skin, the hair on her scalp shortened to the length of her bodily hair. Angelina`s fingers curled under, growing dull, turning into soft black paws. Her back grew into a curve and thinned out, cursing at Fred and George until her her voice had turned into a coarse yelp.
“Your`e going to be in trouble when she`s back to normal,” Ginny said, as the twins sat laughing at their new dog.
“Now, you try,” Fred said, patting George on the shoulder. George produced his wand, pointing it at Dean Thomas he stated the spell.
Hermione continued reading her limmerick again, making sure it sounded right she began to walk out with Neville and Ginny. She had passed Pansy, hearing her telling her head of house about the two dogs that now stood in the great hall.
Professor Snape finished tasting his odd assortment of Bertie Botts beans, placing them on the Slytherins table. Hermione rolled her eyes, seeing her potions professor advancing on the twins.
“Come hither, Weasley`s,” Snape raised his voice.
Hermione left the twins to deal with the consequences, with Ginny and Neville in tow. They began strolling up to the transfiguration classroom.
“What`s that noise?” Ginny asked, as the sound of person giggling hysterically got closer and closer, whilst walking.
The three friends peered through the crack of Professor McGonagall`s classroom, watching as the transfiguration teacher was sat at her desk, growing silent as she read each parchment, then erupted in to giggles again, blushing the more she giggled like a schoolgirl. Hermione knocked on the door.
Minerva straightened her self up and cleared her throat, “Come in.”
“Professor,” Hermione smiled. “I finished the limmerick you requested.”
“Thank you, Miss Granger, Mr. Longbottom have you finished yours as well?”
“Yes,” he answered, handing her a piece of parchment.
Neville, Ginny and Hermione left McGonagall to her reading. They`d walked out in to the corridor, when Hermione started heading toward their Common room.
“Hey, wait a minute,” Ginny hurried to her side. “Where are you going?”
“Back to our dorms to read for a while,” Hermione replied.
“No, no, we should get something to eat, it`s lunch time,” Ginny suggested. “Aren`t you hungry?”
“Not really, Ronald will be there won`t he?” Hermione frowned, hoping he wouldn`t fight with her again.
“He`s busy watching the guys practise Quidditch,” Ginny assured her, linking arms with her and heading her back to the main hall.
Neville, Ginny and Hermione stopped as a flash of bluish-grey mist crossed their path. It was Peeves, he moved toward Neville pointing his wet finger at him. Shoving it deep into his ear, leaving a silvery trail of slobber down Neville`s cheek.
After they`d managed to avert Peeves` attention, they continued back down to the main hall. It was filled with students from all houses. Unfortunately for Hermione, after Ginny had sat next to Fred, the only spot near her friends was next to Ron. Hermione shot a surprised glare to Ginny, she merely shrugged, Hermione returned her glare to Ron as he pursed his lips and looked away.
Ginny had become somewhat unhappy herself with the many girls in her house trying to convince her to ask Harry out. She was far less then amused with their constant, “friendly guidance,” as Lavender had explained it, after her short out burst earlier.
As soon as Ginny had sat at the table, Patricia Stimpson was in her ear about her ex-boyfriend.
“Shut up!,” Ginny shouted, surprising Patricia, making her fall off her chair.
“Ginny, I`m sure it couldn`t be that bad,” Harry smiled endearingly, Ginny stared angrily back.
Her cheeks felt warm as her tempertature rose, the anger in her stomach propelled itself into her chest. Ginny leant over the table, smacking Harryacross his face. Leaving a sharp sting on her hand.
“I wouldn`t have to put up with all of this if you didn`t leave me!,” Ginny yelled. Tears spilled from he eyes, running out of the hall.
Hermione chased her, following her in to the nearby toilets. Ginny leaned over the sink, rinsing her face.
“Are you alright?” Hermione asked. Sitting on a nearby sink.
“I guess so,” Ginny sobbed, looking at her flustered face in the mirror. “I can`t believe I lost my temper that badly without the use of my hexes.”
Hermione stiffened her lips to surpress her laughter, her emotion got the better of her.
“I can`t believe you smacked Harry,” Hermione laughed.
“Was a bit unexpected,” Ginny joined in her friends giggles, “It just got to boiling point.”
“You know your`e going to have to apol-,” Hermione was cut off by a soft moan, coming from one the cubicles.
“Have a fight with the boys, did we girls?” Myrtle popped her head out to greet them.
“Hello Myrtle,” Hermione smiled, warily, “It`s nothing bad.”
“Did I hear correctly? Someone named Harry received a smack off you,” Myrtle thought for a moment. “Are you talking about Harry Potter?”
Ginny nodded, still leaning over the sink. Myrtle hollered loudly, she dashed toward the small redhead. Grabbing her long hair roughly. Forcing her into a cubicle, pushing her head down a toilet.
“How dare you hurt Harry!” Myrtle screamed. Holding Ginny down as she flailed around.
“Myrtle, that`s enough!,” Hermione shouted, pulling Ginny from the mad ghosts grasp.
Ginny sat back trying to catch her breath, Hermione hugged her, “What else is going to happen today!?”
Hermione now felt bewildered at her friends forgetting her birthday, not one of her them had wished her well enough for her liking. Neville; being assaulted wasn`t the most pleasant thing to witness, the audacity of Myrtle; trying to drown her best friend right in front of her. 'This is getting ridiculous.'
Ginny had retreated back to her room and to have a shower, leaving Hermione outside the great hall. She sighed, staring at the entrance. Knowing her friends were in there eating and chattering amongst themselves. She exhaled, deciding to give them one last chance.
As she neared the doors, she felt something squishy and squeaky under her foot. Hermione groaned at Neville`s stupidity, 'leaving Trevor in harms way,' she shook her head.
She left Trevor to hop around having the door`s open, she walked along to Fred`s side of the table. Hurrying to join them for lunch. She noticed while passing the whole table fell quiet. She swallowed, worriedly. Hoping she was imagining it.
Hermione took her place between the twins and began to fill her plate with roast chicken and gravy. Not a word was spoken as she sat there, feeling wildly out of place, like she was sitting amongst the Slytherins, all casting her murderous glares.
After moments of silence, Hermione looked to Seamus to start coversation.
“How did you go with your limmerick, Seamus, did you do well?” Hermione asked.
Seamus grinned at her, “Yes, it was fu-.”
“Seamus! You got popcorn stuck in your teeth right there,” George pointed to his own teeth, then proceeded to give the Irish boy a glare.
Seamus stared back slightly abashed what he did to receive such a glare, a look of realisation crossed his features. Seamus lowered his head and continued eating.
Hermione exhaled deeply, “Alright, what is going on?”
She watched all her friends, they kept eating. Acting as if she weren`t there. “I`m warning you all, stop it with this silent treatment!”
“Fred?” Hermione asked, with no reply.
Hermione stood angrily, spilling the contents into Fred`s lap and stomped off back to her common room. She sobbed heavily, at her friends ignorance and insensitivity. 'It`s my birthday' Hermione cried. 'No doubt the worst one ever.'
“Femella Diem Ex Die,” Hermione said her password, before the pink lady`s portrait, swung open.
She entered the darkened common room, standing at the entrance listening intently, she was sure she heard whispers and slight giggles.
“Lumos,” Hermione drew her wand, pointing it out in front of her.
The lights around the room, went around the room lighting themselves. The fireplace burst into flames. “Nox,” Hermoine put her wand, the light disappearing from it`s tip. She set it down on the coffee table, looking at the empty room. She fell to the floor, sobbing heavily in to her hands.
“Hermione, it`s alright, don`t cry,” Ron told her, he slid a hand on to her shoulder, startling her she screamed.
“You! What are you doing here?”
“Just came to see you,” Ron shrugged, smiling sheepishly at her.
“Why so you can fight with me again! Your`e a terrible person! How can you expect me to-,” Hermione stopped with the force of Ron`s kiss.
“Surprise!” the whole student body of Gryffindor shouted jumping up from various places around the room. Hermione squealed and giggled at the shock of their announcement.
Hermione later realised that Parvati and Lavender were hiding presents from sight and Katie and Alicia had birthday cards, they were the last ones to sign before putting them in envelopes for her.
