This is a songfic on the pairing Crabbe/Marietta Edgecomb from the Harry Potter books, I know it`s weird pairing but it`s one of the beter onestories of mine.
Characters belong to J.K. Rowling, songwords belong to The Killers - When you were young.
After Voldemort`s last downfall, the Wizarding World was left with very few purebloods. Most families of 'higher significance' were lost at the hands of either side. Marietta`s mother was of a traditional influence on her daughter and wished that she`d marry into a wealthy pure blood family.
You sit there in your heartache, waiting for some beautiful boy to save you from your old ways.
Marietta`s first option; if any was Eddie Carmichael. They were close friends until he close to Lavender Brown. But she had given him very hint and option in which to pull out of his relationship, he never caught on to the fact that she loved him. She forgave him and herself in resorting to such a a childish crush. Eddie had been her friend since they were very young and loved her like a sister.
You play forgiveness, watch it now. Here he comes!
After a while, her mother had found her a date. A rich pureblood family just as Marietta had always expected. One evening Mrs. Edgecomb had invited the young man around for dinner with his mother. Marietta feared her mother`s tastes and dreaded to think of who would be standing at the door. She had to bite her lip from cursing at the boy she knew as Vincent Crabbe stood happily at the door.
He doesn`t look a thing like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman.
Like you imagined when you were young.
Marietta had grown accustomed to being set up with boys. She did have dreams when she was a young girl of who she would marry and have children with. She often dreamed of a dashing young man with thick brown hair and beautiful green eyes that would scoop her up away from the wars and ride away with her on his broomstick.
She protested her mother`s insistence on Vincent`s behalf at first. Marietta remembered being taunted by Crabbe while at school; a nasty, overweight boy who would never stop teasing her. She agreed on dating Vincent, making a compromise with her mother to be able too have the next choice in her next boyfriend.
Can we climb this mountain, I don`t know.
Time and death apparently changed Crabbe for the better, his intelligence had grown and his nasty side had disappeared. It seemed he no longer sneered or even eaten like he did at school. He would actually smile at Marietta and even manged to joke with her on occasion.
Months passed again, but Marietta`s dreams of having someone more suitable to what her dreams had shown her never faltered. She resisted all of his charms, waiting for another man that would miraculously stop by and whisk her away.
Higher now than ever before, I know that we can make it if we take it slow.
Easy now, watch it go.
Crabbe knew of her intentions, to leave him as soon as someone more suited to the man of her dreams came along. But still he tried his hardest at making an attempt at a relationship with her. He was disgusted in his actions in the last years of school, he wasn`t cut out of the same mould that his father was.
He was now purely his own man, trying to find the best way out of the mistakes his father had put on him. His friends Goyle and Malfoy were now doing the same, securing wives for themselves and loving families they saw only existed in books theyv`e read, leaving their parents 'old ways' behind.
Vincent wanted a life with Marietta, knowing she was a good person to some. He knew they`d make it if she would give him a chance.
We're burning down the highway skyline, On the back of a hurricane that started turning.
When you were young.
Both of them had grown through the wars and managed to escape without much harm or the loss of family. They watched many friends disappear and die. Each having whirlwind existences that their parents had brought on them, making life uneasy by their school house predjudices and with trying to over come them.
They say the devil`s water it ain`t so sweet, You don`t have to drink right now.
But you can dip your feet once in a while.
A few years had passed and Marietta`s dreams slowly became non-existent, she became more interested in Crabbe. Vicnent, on the other hand had almost given up on any chance of romance with the girl he thought he could escape his past with. He kissed another girl, Millicent had shown him affection on numerous occasions, making him feel as if he was wanted.
Marietta had caught him, she had often felt warm feelings for the man and let herself fall for Crabbe and what he had become. Marietta had even kissed him, and became confused in what she wanted. Lately the feelings for the man in her dreams had become a mere memory as Crabbe had been more and more involved her life.
Her mother had spoken with her about her actions, 'Saving yourself for the ridiculous notion that the boy in your mind would save you'. Her mother admitted that she had the same thoughts but she advised her daughter that it`s not good to dwell on dreams.
'Vincent is here and has become a decent man, you should take him up on his offer.' Marietta remembered her mothers words as she waited at home for Crabbe to get home.
You sit there in your heartache, waiting for some beautiful boy to save you from your old ways.
You play forgiveness, watch it now. Here he comes!
Marietta now thought of nothing but Crabbe, hoping she hadn`t pushed him away so far that he wouldn`t take her back. The more she thought of him and all his kindness. Made her heartbeat faster and breathing become shallow. It felt like hours that she had sat in her home waiting for him to get there, until she saw the familiar face entering the yard.
He doesn`t look a thing like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman.
Like you imagined when you were young.
The anger written on his face, the patience he felt for her was no longer there as he watched her walk to him. She knew he wasn`t what she saw in her dreams, all that mattered that she felt for him and didn`t want to end up alone and without a family of her own. So she kissed him, apologised and answered 'yes' when he proposed to marry her.
