My friend goes to the gym every day, and she managed to gain weight from doing weight-lifting! It turns out that she through she was getting slimmer, she was getting more 'muscly', and as muscles are heavier than fat, she was putting on weight! Oops...
I've never really tried any diets. I do watch what I eat, but that's mainly because of health and teeth problems I've had. And partly because most of the food I like is good, healthy stuff! ^_^ Well, except for chocolate, but I could never, and would never want to give it up anyway!
Anyway, I've found that a good way to loose weight steadily is to try Yoga. I go with my mum (me to keep fit, and her to lose weight), and she's already lost half a stone just from one term!

Light weight lifting can be a good thing to tone up your body. When you gain muscles it means that fat will be burnt faster, and even though your scale might not show any difference or you might gain a bit, you can see the results! Just combine it with other forms of exercises such as cardio. That works wonders.
Yoga is great, I have tried it and the we stopped, though. But mainly because the schedule of the gym sucked. Maybe I will try it again...
